Jonghwan Jeong (b. South Korea, 1996) based in Netherlands.
My work examines the tension between the individual and the power dynamics of contemporary social structures. I investigate how the mundane rituals of daily life reveal the invisible forces shaping our unconscious. By engaging with these systems, I seek to dismantle their authority, transforming a sense of powerlessness into a site for existential reflection.
To investigate these tensions, I work across drawing, painting, video, sculpture, and performance. My works serve as an excavation of the latent tensions of daily life. This process bridges the gap between the external world and the internal, transforming these observations into tangible forms.
I believe profound truths reside within the metaphors of the ordinary. By expanding a personal perspective into a universal language, I overlap the familiar with the surreal. Using a lens of paradox and humor, my work acts as subversive resistance—finding agency within the absurdity of human existence.
